A unique two-day tour has been launched in the Western Cape that promises to immerse visitors in the best of the picturesque, culinary and culture-rich Cape West Coast.
Called the Port Owen Experience, the tour will take place on June 7 and 8, and will explore the undiscovered areas around the town of Velddrif and the Port Owen Marina – St Tropez on the Berg River.
Participants will spend two nights at the Russells on the Port guest house, with excursions that include a boat trip on the marina (accompanied by wine and pizza); a visit to the fish museum; a visit to the renowned Bokkom Laan (the oldest road in Velddrif, where the bokkoms are made) (including the River Studio art gallery, tour of a bokkoms factory, and coffee at Columbine); a beer tasting and brewery tour at Charlie’s Brewhouse; and meals at the guest house’s restaurant and Charlie’s Brewhouse.
The Experience is the brainchild of UK businsessman and entrepreneur, Russell Foster, who now lives in Port Owen. Foster operates both Russells on the Port and Charlie’s Brewhouse.
“The Cape West Coast is a beautiful part of the world. The waterways in the Port Owen Marina attract bird-watching enthusiasts, boaters, canoeists, fishermen and families just generally enjoying the outdoors. I could not think of a better place to launch the Port Owen Experience, and we are very excited for this new venture and to showcase this part of the world to visitors,” says Foster.
“It is rich with warm welcoming people, delicious food from local eateries, exciting and fun adventures, stunning scenery and natural beauty – to name only a few things – and this new Port Owen Experience allows visitors to immerse themselves in all of these aspects and experience a slice of the ‘Weskus Beskus’ (West Coast Best Coast),” says Carmen Lerm, Founder and CEO of West Coast Way, a company that promotes and markets the Cape West Coast to grow tourism to the area.
