The Tourism Minister was addressing a a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at Hotel Obokash in Dhaka. The MoU was signed between Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and The Base Camp, the first outdoor activity camp of the country.
According to tourism experts, Bangladesh has a lot of potential in the sector and the government must take active initiative in developing mountaineering, rafting, rippling, paragliding, parachuting, hiking and trekking.
“As 60% population of Bangladesh are youths, it is an urgent need for us to bolster adventure based tourism to attract more tourists. Adventure Tourism is experiencing an unprecedented growth globally, our neighbouring countries like Nepal and Maldives are earning a huge amount of revenue by offering this tourism,” said Menon.
Bangladesh currently offers tourists trekking in Chittagong Hill Tracks (CHT) and enjoyment of rivers and rill crossing throughout the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sunderbans.
