Wynn Resorts Holdings has filed a lawsuit against a Genting Group subsidiary, alleging that the Malaysian conglomerate’s Resorts World Las Vegas casino project bears a striking resemblance to its own Wynn and Encore properties.
Filed on Dec. 21 with the U.S. District Court of Nevada, the copyright-infringement complaint draws comparisons between the design of the Wynn Las Vegas, which features a concave facade and bronze-hued glass exterior, and the Resorts World design. The Resorts World site is located diagonally across from the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
Resorts World, which broke ground back in 2015, is slated to open in 2020. Recent photos of the $4 billion project show a curved tower design as well as the partial installation of bronze glass windows. Additionally, a June rendering of the casino features the name “Resorts World” written in a stylized script on the building’s front top left corner, similar in fashion to the Wynn and Encore properties.
Billed as a modern Asian-themed casino resort, Resorts World will have 3,000 guestrooms, a 100,000-square-foot casino, various dining venues and retail space.
