Getting away in the winter, for a change of scene, is becoming more popular. People are increasingly choosing to book a flight to a sunny spot rather than sitting at home snuggled up on the sofa playing console games or teasing their friends on social media.
If you are planning a winter break, and are unsure of how to pack, you are going to love this post. Following these tips will make the packing process far easier, and ensure that you do not forget anything vital.
Be ready for all kinds of weather
It is important to be realistic about the weather you can expect when you travel. In the winter, even the hottest places experience mixed weather. You could be lucky, and have a full week of sunshine, but, in most places, it is also possible it could rain a couple of times. Therefore, it is always wise to pack for a range of weathers and temperatures.
Pack layers
The first tip is to pack layers of clothing. There really is no point in packing two or three heavy jumpers. You will be just as warm if you wear a thermal vest, a t-shirt and a light jumper, with a coat over the top if it is really cold or wet. Dressing like this allows you the flexibility you need to make sure that you are comfortable at all times.
If you wake up to a warm, sunny day, you can just wear a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. On the other hand, if it is colder you can opt for a pair of light trousers, a shirt and a light jumper.
Pack thin underwear and socks
Packing thin socks and underwear will also help to reduce the bulk. Your feet will be warmer wearing two pairs of thin socks than they would be if you were to wear just one thick pair. Plus, you can easily wash thinner socks out in the hotel sink, and get them dry overnight, which means that you will not have to pack as many pairs.
Wear your heaviest shoes and coats
It is always wise to take a coat and a pair of boots or covered in shoes with you. The best approach is to wear these for the journey. That way they do will not take up precious space in your suitcase.
Sports and leisure outfits
If you like to get some exercise while you are away, remember to pack something that you can wear to the gym or while jogging. Try to pack sportswear that is light enough to be washed through and dried in your hotel room.
It is always worth packing swimwear, as well, even if you are not planning a beach holiday taking a bikini, tankini or swimming costume with you is a great idea. That way if the weather is not good you can opt to enjoy an afternoon in your hotel’s pool. If there is no pool where you are staying, still take a swimming costume with you. In most large towns or cities, there will be a public pool that you can go to, and enjoy.
