The Lookout Café, a popular semi-open-air café on the Zimbabwe side of the Victoria Falls, has closed until further notice, due to severe fire damage over the festive season.
The cause of the fire has not been established, however no one was hurt in the incident, which was believed to have occurred in the early hours of December 24.
Megan Conn, Brand Manager at Bushtracks Africa, says: “The Lookout Café was not only an international guest highlight; the Victoria Falls community as a whole thought of the Café as a local favourite. As a company we have always encouraged guests to experience it at least once. This not only stems from a healthy working relationship with the Lookout Café, but also from personal enjoyment of what it had to offer. The Bushtracks team, as neighbours in the industry, often visited it and will definitely recognise its loss. We do hope to see it ‘rise from the ashes’ and will continue our support for gorge activities until such time.”
The Café is 120m above the Zambezi River rapids, overhanging the Batoka Gorge. It offers exceptional views of the Victoria Falls, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
