The United National Transport Union (UNTU) confirmed that the Gautrain strike would continue today (July 31). Gautrain has contingency plans in place to assist passengers travelling between Sandton, Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia).
Leigh Gunkel-Keuler, Ortia Spokesperson, said: “Passengers are encouraged to plan their trip and factor in sufficient travel time to get to the airport.”
Ortia does not anticipate that the Gautrain strike will have an impact on its operations, according to Gunkel-Keuler. “It is our understanding that the Gautrain operator will continue with the contingency plans they have in place.”
Gautrain, on social media, said a train service would operate during the peak period between Sandton and Ortia, stopping at Rhodesfield. A bus service, operating between Sandton and Rhodesfield and between Rhodesfield and Ortia, commenced at 09h00 this morning and will continue until 16h00.
