United on Wednesday unveiled a new livery, replacing gold flourishes with blue and enlarging the globe logo on the aircraft tail.
“Three shades — rhapsody blue, United blue and sky blue — are used throughout the design in a way that pays respect to United’s heritage while bringing a more modern energy,” the company said.
United first unveiled the new livery in a video it embedded into a Twitter post Tuesday evening.
Perhaps most obvious to flyers will be the elimination of all gold on the aircraft. The United globe has been converted from a combination of gold, blue and white to a combination of blues. In addition, the logo encompasses the entire tail in the new design, expanding from only the tail’s bottom left portion.
Other changes include a larger United insignia across the body of planes, the engine painted in the deep blue the carrier calls “United Blue” and the words “Connecting people. Uniting the world,” painted near the nose.
The carrier will continue rolling out aircraft with update liveries throughout the year.
