The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) is pleased with the commitment from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) President, Aleksander Ceferin, to promote the country to the world as a top tourist destination.
Ceferin and his family recently spent time in Zimbabwe visiting Victoria Falls, Hwange, Great Zimbabwe and the Eastern Highlands. Following his visit, he was quoted in the state-owned The Herald, as saying that he would gladly advise anyone to visit Zimbabwe, as the perceptions of the country created by global news organisations were untrue.
“They said Zimbabwe is very dangerous, that there is no water in Victoria Falls. Zimbabwe is a fantastic country, with fantastic people, flora and fauna. We had a great time and we will promote Zimbabwe everywhere, trust me,” said Ceferin.
ZTA Spokesperson, Godfrey Koti, told Tourism Update that the Authority was delighted by the UEFA President’s pledge. “This visit is an endorsement of the confidence the world has in Zimbabwe, despite the bad publicity the country often gets.”
He added that the country was on the right path as a destination in terms of the facilities it offered and the management of the tourism sector. “We are looking forward to growing this relationship with UEFA.
“We are confident that this visit will bring tourists into the country and enhance our sports tourism strategy for Zimbabwe,” said Koti.
