The U.S. Department of Agriculture has created a PSA to raise travelers’ awareness about how they can unknowingly spread invasive pests through prohibited fruit, vegetables, plants and animal products they bring back from an international trip.
Insects, snails, slugs, mites, microscopic worms and diseases can travel into the country on foreign products.
The Department of Agriculture’s PSA depicts a snail looking out the window of a plane with the tagline “Don’t Give Him a Window Seat.”
Each year, invasive plant pests and diseases cost the U.S. about $40 billion in crop losses, damage to forests and ecosystems, and eradication and control efforts.
