Five White rhinos have been transported by Turkish Cargo, from Johannesburg to China, with their new home being a state-controlled natural park in Shanghai.
The presence of the rhinos is designed to raise awareness about the disastrous effect of poaching that has led to the animals being endangered. The demand for rhino horn has led to illegal hunting, which in turn has decimated the White rhino population across the globe.
The transport operation was carried out under strict adherence to Iata’s Live Animals Regulations, which detail acceptance, storage and shipment processes and provide documentation, encaging, labelling and marking guidelines.
Turkish Cargo only performs live animal-carrying operations between qualified zoos and private institutions or acknowledged preservation and rehabilitation centres in order to prevent illegal animal trafficking.
