The Kilifair and Karibu Tourism Fair is scheduled to open on Friday (June 1). It will take place in Moshi in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania and will run for three days, ending on June 3. Under a special agreement, it will alternate each year between Moshi and Arusha.
The event combines Kilifair and the Karibu Travel and Trade Fair into one event in an effort to draw more exhibitors and attendees to the region.
Siril Akko, Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, said combining the fairs had created the largest tourism trade fair in East Africa.
The newly combined show is expected to host more than 350 exhibitors from East and Central Africa, upwards of 300 hosted and semi-hosted buyers and an estimated 4 000 visitors overall.
Tourist offices from Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Rwanda have confirmed their participation.
The Karibu Travel and Trade Fair was established 15 years ago, and grew to become one of the foremost tourism fairs in the region. Kilifair began in 2015 as a way to promote tourism in Tanzania and Mount Kilimanjaro.
