The Perry Hotel Key West on Stock Island is the realization of an idea that took root 10 years ago. Guests can expect an edgy, artsy boutique hotel located in the heart of a marina that delivers personalized service.
“The Perry is not your typical Key West hotel,” said managing director Mike Hartman. “We’re embracing our amazing waterfront location as part of a story that needs to be told in order to truly understand and appreciate the area’s local culture and unique character. We’re blending history with a modern design to offer guests a completely new experience.”
The Perry’s name pays homage to Commodore Matthew C. Perry who commanded the USS Shark to Key West and declared the Florida Keys as U.S. soil in 1822.
Led by Key West architect Tom Pope, the property’s architecture, design and art are nods to the island’s industrial history and its long tradition of working boatyards, fishing fleets and marinas. The interior design, which was conceptualized by South Florida native Blaire Weiser through the Denver-based design team Johnson Nathan Strohe, blends sharp, rugged elements with warm, ocean-inspired touches. One such detail is the juxtaposition of the multi-toned reclaimed teak floor in the lobby beside concrete.
“Our team of architects and designers have taken the raw ingredients of this location to create an authentically, destination-focused hotel experience,” said owner and lead developer Brad Weiser. Weiser is also a principal with Postmark Hospitality Group, the hotel management company that is operating The Perry.
The 100-room hotel is located on a private 220-slip marina within the 3-year-old Stock Island Marina Village ,comprising a former shrimp-packing warehouse turned into artists’ studios, a future distillery, community gardens, two dog parks, and a thatched-roof Cuban restaurant with outdoor dining.
The Perry itself adds two “boat-to-table” seafood restaurants to Stock Island Marina Village. The open-air Salty Oyster Dockside Bar and Grill and Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen and Bar are helmed by executive chef Ryan Fredstrom, a Florida native and avid fisherman.
The Perry partners with more than a dozen local tour operators to offer an array of outdoor excursions ranging from paddle-boarding, jet skiing and fishing to snorkeling, diving, sailing, yachting and eco-tours — all offered just steps away from guestrooms at the marina.
Among the hotel’s mos excursion partners are Lazy Dog Key West Kayak & Paddleboard Rental, Namaste Eco-Excursions, and Harmony Yacht Vacations, which sells cruises to Cuba that leave from the marina’s private docks.
The Perry offers three suites. Two identical Grand Suites are located on the second and third floor corners with expansive wraparound terraces furnished for daylong use from dining to lounging, and views of the marina and pool. Grand Suites have a separate sitting area with a wet bar and a private king bedroom with a soaking tub and separate shower.
The Commodore Suite is an oversized king guestroom on the third floor, directly over the lobby atrium, with the option of two adjoining guestrooms — perfect for a large family or group of friends.
Every room in the three-story, L-shaped property has an outdoor terrace and offers one of four views: pool and marina, marina only, sunset over a mangrove-lined pond, and Stock Island’s new baseball park with mangroves.
The entire hotel is nonsmoking and pet-friendly. Starting rates through summer fluctuate between $217 and $277 per night.
