Travelling is addictive – I swear. I know that there’s nothing I would rather do than saddle up with my passport and head off into the sunset to explore a new culture or a new part of the world. It’s definitely one of my favourite things to do and there’s a good reason behind it. Beyond the fact that travelling is great fun and you get to experience something new every day, it’s also hugely rewarding in the sense that you increase your compassion, understanding and knowledge with every passing day. If you haven’t ever travelled – that’s totally fine, just to know that it’s all out there waiting for you is enough! One of the most glorious places that I have ever had the pleasure of going to is Bali. (If you’ve never been to the Indonesian island, take a look at these cheap deals for Bali Tour Packages from Travezl.) Bali is home to stunning scenery, beautiful temples and buildings, and a friendly and warm population that rivals any other in the world. So many people have Bali on their bucket list and it’s very easy to know why after having been there! If you’ve never been, take a look at this great list of some of the most excellent spots in Bali to find out why it tops the bucket list for so many people.
The beaches are wonderful
One of the main reasons that people head off to Bali for a jaunt – or extended stay (their expat community is massive) – is because of the beautiful beach lifestyle that calls to so many people. Imagine waking up in your own beach villa with just the sound of crashing waves there to herald the breaking of the day? Sounds pretty idyllic, huh? Sadly in Bali this kind of serenity is becoming less and less as more and more people head here to get their own slice of paradise but there’s still plenty to be found.
The people are gentle and lovely
There are plenty of touts in Bali – don’t get me wrong. There are also plenty of really lovely people who are gentle and kind and really funny. Make sure you take the time to meet both and maintain a good sense of humour no matter where you go!
The scenery is stunning
Endless rice paddies are one of the dominating features in Bali. You’ll have a magnificent time wandering the fields or cycling through the lush fields. It’s a very peaceful way to get around.
You can find yourself in Ubud
You might have read a little book called Eat, Pray, Love. Well if you haven’t you might have heard of it, no? The place where the heroine spends her time in Bali is Ubud and in the last few years this spot has literally exploded in a boom of wellness. Find your own slice of excellent here.
The surfing is incredible
I know I mentioned the beaches before – but did you know that the surfing here is also phenomenal? You might want to learn how to surf or you might be keen to carve things up with your pro board. No matter what, there’s something here for you.
There are more temples than you ever knew existed
A huge part of life in Bali is religion. Ceremonies, festivals and events are held seemingly endlessly. Be sure to duck into a temple (don’t forget your sarong for modesty/respect to cover your knees) and enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional ceremony.
You can party ‘til dawn
Of course, I have to mention something about the fact that Bali is a bit of a party spot. For many people that’s all they come for – and that’s totally fine! It’s got some of the best clubs and party spots and you’ll be sure to have a great time here if that’s what you’re after.
