After two years of negotiation, Southwest Airlines and Sabre Corp. have agreed on a full-participation distribution agreement, meaning Sabre customers will have access to Southwest content.
Southwest content will be available on Sabre’s GDS for travel management companies, corporations and government agencies beginning in 2021.
The agreement is also a reflection of “a broader relationship between the two companies,” the companies said in a joint statement. That will result in things like improved schedule and inventory accuracy and real-time booking functionality.
Previously, Sabre users did have access to some Southwest content, but it was via Sabre’s Basic Booking Request connectivity, which limits functionality. Under the new agreement, they will upgrade the connectivity level for things like the improved schedule and inventory accuracy.
“While we’ve been in discussions with Sabre for well over two years, we had not made much progress until recently on an agreement that balances the health of all our channels,” Southwest executive vice president and chief commercial officer Andrew Watterson said in a statement. “We are thrilled to come to terms that are mutually beneficial for our customers and continue our long-standing partnership with Sabre.”
Southwest last year announced content agreements with Sabre competitors Travelport and Amadeus.
