South African Airways has assured all its customers and stakeholders that operations will continue as normal.
This is despite not having received another government bailout of R2 billion (€125 million).
The airline said in a statement that it was aware of media reports that suggested it would cease operations, and has committed to remaining transparent in its communications on all operational changes that may impact any flight schedules.
“Where there may be flight schedule amendments, such operational changes will be managed and communicated in accordance with the industry norms and practices,” said SAA Spokesperson, Tlali Tlali.
As part of its business rescue, SAA has received R2 billion from lenders but still awaits the second R2bn from National Treasury.
The joint business rescue practitioners appointed by the carrier – Les Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana – have ruled out the liquidation of the airline as one of the business rescue scenarios.
