In comparison, the tourism sector witnessed a huge growth in January that is about 13.4%, as per the data released recently by the National Statistics Institute (INS). As many as 543,500 Romanian tourists had checked into local accommodation units in February that is 8.5% over the same month in the year 2016.
The number of foreign tourists had reached 135,600 that marks an increase of about 4.5% year-on-year.
The number of overnight stays in local hotels and guesthouses had risen by 6.4% year-on-year in the initial two months of the year to 2.54 million.
A majority of the foreign tourists had come from Europe in February, namely about 104,700. In total, Romania recorded about 271,089 foreign tourists in January and February that is a 6.9% rise year-on-year. Most of the tourists came from Germany (29,983) followed by Italy (29,661), Israel (27,423) and the United Kingdom (18,144).
