London’s comedy scene is packed with great nights out, with hilarious comedy clubs taking place all over the city.
Here’s a guide to some of our favourites:

Best for comedy critics:
The 99 Club
The 99 Club has made a name for its carefully curated comic line-ups, with plenty of big names playing at its nights over the years.
Don’t just take our word for it, however – it’s been named Best London Comedy Club at the rather respectable Chortle Awards for the past four years running.
There are 99 Club nights taking place at venues around the city, every night of the week, but you’ll find some of the biggest names at its flagship Leicester Square venue.

Best for comedy historians:
The Comedy Store
Just around the corner from Leicester Square, you’ll find The Comedy Store. A landmark of the British comedy scene since it opened in 1979.
It’s been responsible for launching the careers of some of the nation’s most beloved comic talent, including Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigel Planer, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
You can still catch some of the country’s (and the world’s) best stand-up talent there today, as well as brave/foolhardy amateurs at their monthly King Gong open mic night.

Best for location:
Boat Show Comedy Club
Promising sets from both emerging talent and big names, and an incredible location. The Boat Show Comedy Club has been welcoming audiences on board the Tattershall Castle – an historic paddle steamer moored by the London Eye – for the past 15 years.
On Tuesdays, the venue hosts the Guinea Pig Club, where established stars drop in to try out new material.
And if that wasn’t reason enough to go, you can also throw some serious shapes at the free nightclub afterwards.

Best for atmosphere:
Covent Garden Comedy Club
No, it’s not technically in Covent Garden anymore, instead taking place at the legendary nightclub Heaven by Charing Cross station (so it’s handy for catching a train home afterwards… or hitting the dance floor and turning it into an all-nighter).
Despite the change in location, however, the Covent Garden Comedy Club has lost none of its famous atmosphere.
Now in its 13th year, the club prides itself as being the friendliest comedy night in the city.

Best for mid-week laughs:
Top Secret Comedy Club
Putting on top quality comedy every night of the week, the Top Secret Comedy Club’s a great place to go if you need a mid-working-week pick-me-up (and don’t we all?).
Whatever night of the week you go, you’ll be guaranteed some top quality laughs – its currently the best rated comedy club in the country on TripAdvisor and Google.
And well-known stars do have a habit of popping in to try out their new material.
All that, and the drinks prices are hard to beat too.
