Princess Cruises has added MedallionNet WiFi to its Princess Cays private island, part of a package of improvements that also includes a new marina, shopping upgrades and new shore excursions.
Princess said the addition makes Princess Cays “the only cruise industry private island to offer connectivity ashore.”
The WiFi improvement is one of the first components of the Princess Medallion device that activates new personalized service on the Regal Princess. The service is being tested with some passengers during the first quarter before being expanded ship-wide.
Princess said there are several new shore excursions now available on Princess Cays, including a clear-bottom kayaking adventure, a bike excursion and a new stingray encounter.
Also new is a “pick-a-pearl” jewelry section in the Bahama Treasure store. The expanded marina has a new channel and deeper turning basin to accommodate larger tenders, and has gained a shaded security pre-clearance area.
A new information booth with a shaded waiting lounge area has also been added, as well as a new public announcement and music system. Many structures have been re-painted with tropical pastel colors, beach bungalows have been refitted and landscaping has been improved with additional planters and palms.
Upgrades are ongoing at several private cruise islands in the Bahamas, including Norwegian Cruise Line’s Great Stirrup Cay and Royal Caribbean’s Coco Cay.
