A power outage following a fire at a nearby substation left OR Tambo International Airport without power on Sunday.
The interruption lasted for two hours and affected retail outlets and some communication mechanisms.
Airport operations continued with the assistance of back-up generator systems, ensuring that critical services continued. Manual operations were also activated in mainstream services such as baggage systems.
Acting Spokesperson for the airport Samukelo Khambule, said: “Power was fully restored by 13h10 on Sunday. The resetting and reactivation of equipment happened in phases. This was to ensure that systems are tested and ready to carry the loads of equipment.”
