Hawaiian Airlines held onto its spot as the timeliest mainline U.S. airline last year. Delta came in second and Alaska was third, according to the flight data analytics company OAG.
In 2019, Hawaiian flights were on time 87.4% of the time, OAG wrote in its Punctuality League 2020 report. The Transportation Department defines an on-time flight as one that arrives inside of 15 minutes of schedule. Delta was on time 83.6% of the time, while Alaska recorded an on-time percentage of 81.5%.
Alaska was followed by Spirit (79.4%), Southwest (79.4%), Allegiant (79%), American (77.9%), United (76.3%), JetBlue (73.8%) and Frontier (73.2%).
Hawaiian’s 87.4% on-time performance was fourth-best worldwide. Garuda Indonesia was the timeliest carrier with a 95% on-time performance, followed by Panama’s Copa (90.1%) and discount Japanese carrier Skymark (90.1%).
Delta’s 83.6% on-time percentage was fourth-best among the world’s 20 largest airlines as measured by scheduled flights. Leading that category was South America’s Latam at 86.4%, followed by Russia’s Aeroflot (86.3%) and Japan’s All Nippon Airways (85.9%).
OAG also ranked airport on-time statistics as part of the Punctuality League report.
Moscow Sheremetyevo, with an on-time performance of 86.9%, led the way among mega-airports, defined by OAG as those from which airlines flew 30 million or more seats last year. Tokyo Haneda was second, followed by Singapore Changi.
At fourth, Delta hub Atlanta was the top-performing mega-airport in the U.S. with an on-time performance of 83.7%. Seattle, Los Angeles, New York JFK, Denver and Dallas/Fort Worth also finished in the top 10.
