Travel marketing organization NYC & Company has opened an office in Singapore to bolster travel from Southeast Asia to New York.
NYC & Company is specifically hoping to use its new outpost in Singapore to attract tourists from Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The office will be operated by Xzodus, a Singapore-based company led by director Ee Lian Lee.
“The Southeast Asia region is an important emerging target segment for New York City, representing more than 225,000 visitors each year. Through the expansion of our promotional efforts in this region, we look forward to inviting even more travelers to discover the unique beauty and magnetism of the five boroughs,” said NYC & Company CEO Fred Dixon.
In 2017, New York had 46,000 visitors from Vietnam, 63,000 from the Philippines, 43,000 from Singapore, 33,000 from Indonesia, 19,000 from Malaysia and 23,000 from Thailand for a total of 227,000 from Southeast Asia.
“It’s really important to diversify our global reach to be able to ensure NYC remains a leading global travel destination despite currency shifts and changes in the geopolitical landscape that often occur,” said NYC & Company senior vice president of global communications Christopher Heywood.
Including Singapore, NYC & Company now has 17 international offices serving 28 regions.
NYC & Company is promoting New York at the travel show ITB Asia this week, spotlighting its “2019 — A Monumental Year” campaign.
2019 has been dubbed “a monumental year” for a number of reasons, including the opening of several large-scale developments and tourist attractions like the new Statue of Liberty Museum. New York will also host WorldPride, the first time the LGBT event will be held in the U.S.
