The process of appointing a new permanent CEO of SAA is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
Musa Zwane has been acting CEO since November 2015 and, according to a Business Day report, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says “a permanent CEO is necessary for the formulation of the airline’s corporate plan for the next three years”, further stating that “the absence of a permanent CEO has been cited as one of the issues contributing to the instability of the airline”.
Business Day reports that “the time frame for the appointment of a permanent CEO emerged from a letter Pravin sent to the speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, requesting permission for a delay in the tabling of the corporate plan for the three years 2017-18 to 2019-20.”
Pravin said the involvement of the new CEO would be vital in the corporate planning process, however, SAA could not confirm who will be appointed.
