Several new South African tourism projects were announced during World Travel Market (WTM) London this week.
Thebe Tourism Group (TTG) CEO, Jerry Mabena introduced projects which will form part of TTG’s expanding portfolio, which include the Mandela Presidential Centre in Johannesburg; the Kruger Shalati Development in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park (KNP); as well as the Blyde Community Project, located on the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga, reported IOL News.
The Mandela Presidential Boutique Hotel is housed in a former residence of SA’s former President, Nelson Mandela. The upmarket property has nine bedrooms, conferencing facilities, and a fine dining restaurant, and is set to open in 2019.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation is a key stakeholder in the development, as the property owners. The hotel will provide a Mandela-inspired experience, paying tribute to his life and the times he resided and worked at the property.
The Kruger Shalati Development is set at the end of the railway line at Skukuza, where accommodation will be housed in a restored train, permanently located on top of the Selati Bridge, allowing for uninterrupted views of the park and the Sabie River.
The Blyde Community Project, set in the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, has been made possible through a recently signed MoU between Thebe Tourism Group and the Land Claimant Communities of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve.
The aim of this project is to try and make visitors stay longer in the area by providing iconic attractions and accommodation for groups close to the various activities that are on offer.
Thebe Tourism Group hopes to build a cable car at the Three Rondavels, a sky-walk at God’s Window, upgrade and manage the facilities at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and build a hotel to service the area.
