Classic Portfolio has launched Marataba Conservation Camps, which is due to open in September with two camps – Founders Camp and Explorers Camp.
The 21 000-hectare privately managed section of the Marakele National Park in the Waterberg area in Limpopo is a sanctuary for Black and White rhino and a diverse variety of flora and fauna, including the Big 5.
Founders Camp has four suites overlooking the Matlabas River, which attracts a variety of wildlife, and Explorers Camp has six tents and two allocated vehicles and conservation guides, allowing for two semi-exclusive bookings. Both camps are geared towards a connected adventure and accept children of all ages.
Since 2013, Marataba has enjoyed a successful tourism partnership with the MORE Family Collection, which manages Marataba Safari Lodge and Marataba Mountain Lodge.
Marataba Conservation Camps will offer a safari experience geared to hands-on learning and active participation in essential conservation projects.
Guests will be allocated a private conservation guide and vehicle, and experiences can be chosen on a ‘mix and match’ basis for a fully tailor-made stay. On offer will be transect walks, camera trap set-up and analysis, game census logging and compiling of ID kits. Also available is the three-day Rhino Conservation Safari, which includes monitoring and active participation in essential conservation interventions.
Marataba Conservation Camps are easily accessed from Johannesburg, either by a three-hour drive or a 45-minute charter flight.
