Northern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India celebrated this year’s World Tourism Day in a very unique and noble way by organising Sightseeing Tour of Delhi for Children with Special Abilities. This unique tour was flagged off by the Tourism Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma from Northern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism at Janpath, New Delhi. Secretary Tourism Vinod Zutshi, Additional Secretary Tourism Uday Pratap Singh, Additional Director General Tourism Meenakshi Sharma, members from Tourism Trade, Senior officers from the Ministry, large members of the media, tourism students and tourists also attended the flag off ceremony and World Tourism Day celebrations.
Tourism Minister also personally welcomed foreign and domestic tourists at Janpath Office and interacted with them.
While this noble effort of the Regional Office, Tourism Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma said, “Accessible Tourism for all is about the creation of environments that can cater for the needs of all of us, whether we are travelling or staying at home. May that be due to a disability, even temporary, families with small children, or the ageing population, at some point in our lives, sooner or later, we all benefit of universal accessibility in tourism.”
Ever since its inception, World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27 to foster awareness among the national and international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. As the official day set aside in the United Nations Calendar the celebration seeks to highlight tourisms potential to contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing some of the most pressing challenges society is faced with today. Theme for 2016 World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism for All! World Tourism Day 27 September 2016- Promoting Universal Accessibility’.
Vinod Zutshi, Secretary Tourism, Government of India said, “We want to call upon the right for all of the world’s citizens to experience the incredible diversity of our planet and the beauty of the world we live in. On this year’s World Tourism Day, help us spread the word of both the importance and immense benefits universal accessibility has and can bring to society at large.”
Arun Srivastava, Regional Director Northern India, Ministry of Tourism wished Happy World Tourism Day to all. According to him, “This unique opportunity will provide an opportunity to these students with Special Abilities to take glimpse of important heritage monuments such as Jantar Mantar, Humayun Tomb, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan, etc. This effort is also create awareness among all involved in the tourism industry in the country to remove all the barriers and provide accessible tourism opportunities to all.
As part of the celebrations, drawing competition among the school children was also organised and winners were awarded. All the tourists at the office were also welcomed with special gifts on this occasion.
