Natural Selection’s luxury tented camp, Jack’s Camp, in the Makgadikgadi Pans, Botswana, will close for a total rebuild on October 1, and reopen with a new look in May next year.
The rebuild is being overseen by owner and founder, Ralph Bousfield. The new-look camp will feature ten spacious safari tents, almost double the size of the existing tents, with an interior floor area of 130sqm. Seven tents will feature two queen-size beds, and three tents will have king-size beds. All tents will have indoor and outdoor showers and an overhead cooling system – a low-energy cooling system that cools the area inside the mosquito net only, and is far more energy efficient than an air conditioning unit.
The tents will be furnished with antiques and have a cabinet containing items ranging from stone tools to fossils, all collected and curated by Bousfield.
The camp will have private plunge pools, with the pool pavilion now including a sundeck. There will also be a dedicated spa tent.
The camp shop, which stocks jewellery and beautiful handmade Bushmen items, will be renovated and restocked.
Guests will also have the option to stay at the new Jack’s Migration Camp, which will be located close to its sister property, Camp Kalahari, and will offer all the same comforts as Jack’s Camp, including a tea tent and swimming pool.
