Zimbabwe’s Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) has completed a US$1 million refurbishment of the 88-room Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel.
The renovation began in November last year and included a complete overhaul of the rooms and en-suite bathrooms, with new flooring, wall tiling, ceilings, showers and toilets. The renovation also included the purchase of new furniture and fridges for the rooms. RTG has installed plug sockets with USB ports for newer technology. The hotel also added a spa and plans to renovate the hotel’s restaurant by the end of this year, redoing the floor and introducing new furnishings to complement the rest of the hotel.
Christopher Svovah, the hotel’s General Manager, said the new designs had taken on a more African feel. “Afrocentric-designed soft furnishings that include scatter cushions, wall paintings and curtaining, complete the look.”
Svovah said the response had been positive, explaining that there were a number of ways to measure guest satisfaction. “First and foremost is guest interaction while they stay with us, which has been positive.” He added that they also used online comments such as those on TripAdvisor to gauge people’s feelings. He said the hotel’s occupancy had been steady at 70%, an increase from previous years.
