The Kenya Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has reported a 3.9% increase in its 2019 tourism earnings to KSh157.4 billion (€1. 39 billion).
Cabinet Secretary of Tourism and Wildlife, Najib Balala, released a report on the ministry’s Twitter account on Friday that showed a total of 2 050 000 international visitors.
The US remains in the top spot, increasing by 23.5%, with air connectivity still being a major driver for growth of international arrivals. There was a 6.07% increase in arrivals at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and arrivals at Mombasa’s Moi International Airport were up 8.56%.
Uganda and Tanzania came second and third respectively on the list, showing the growth in African tourism. The report indicated that 63.15% of visitors travelled to Kenya for business, 13.5% were visiting relatives and 10.6% marked “seeking medical solutions and education” as one of their main reasons.
