Canada turned 150 on July 1, 2017 and Destination Canada- India celebrated its anniversary with gusto, zeal and zest in the metropolitan cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, earlier this month.
To mark the celebrations, the High Commissioner of Canada, His Excellency Nadir Patel hosted a gala night at Hyatt Regency Delhi. Jennifer Daubeny, Consul General for Canada to South India, celebrated the night with Destination Canada and travel trade partners in the high-tech city of Bengaluru.
The Mumbai Consulate along with Air Canada hosted Canada’s 150th anniversary, marking the arrival of the latter’s inaugural non-stop flight between Toronto and Mumbai. Destination Canada and other Canadian stakeholders attended the evening that saw electric performances by celebrated choreographer Shiamak Davar’s dance group, followed by a gala dinner.
Addressing the guests in Mumbai, H.E. Nadir Patel said, “This is a reflection of a very strong and growing India-Canada relationship. In the last three years, we have doubled the number of visitors from India to Canada. This reiterates the fact that Canada is a welcoming country, one that embraces diversity, inclusiveness and multiculturalism.”
SanJeet, India Representative, Destination Canada- India, said, “2017 is a special year for Canada and Destination Canada. India has proved to be a strong and emerging market for Canada. We are very happy to be celebrating this year with a record-breaking growth of 26% in Indian arrivals to Canada between January and April 2017, in comparison to the same period last year.”
