The beautiful waterfalls at Sree Narayanapuram can be enjoyed safely as one views the distant beauty of the area from a pavilion. There are footsteps to connect the waterfalls and the pavilion, with the project being completed at Rs 50 lakh.
Such tourist spots were not being promoted earlier due to safety concerns. There is however a wide area where visitors could move and rail fencing had been set up to ensure complete safety.
The perennial waterfall is a visual feast even during summer. Tourists visiting Munnar could also visit the destination for its proximity. Wagamon and Ramakkalmedu are known tourism spots with the number of visitors showing a steady increase every year while lesser known places near Thekkady and Munnar would also be promoted, said District Tourism Promotion Council Secretary K V Francis.
The district is looking at the creation of greater job opportunities and attracting offbeat travellers and scheduled tourists as well.
The district had the largest number of waterfalls and scenic places in the State that could be promoted, said Francis. The amenity centre at Kallar was an Rs 83 lakh project. There would be tourism information centre, restaurant and toilet facilities, he said.
