Thanksgiving is a Canadian tradition going back to Indigenous people celebrating the Fall Harvest. According to historians, “Europeans in North America was held by Sir Martin Frobisher and his crew in the Eastern Arctic on 27 May 1578. They ate a meal of salt beef, biscuits and mushy peas to celebrate and give thanks for their safe arrival in Newfoundland. “* But the first official national Thanksgiving Day in Canada as an independent country took place in April 1872 “held to celebrate the recovery of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) from an illness.” Since then, and after a few iterations, Canadian Thanksgiving has become a day to get together with family and be grateful for the good people and things in our lives. And for living in this wonderful country.
Happy Thanksgiving
