Getting a gift for your travel buddies or friends who love backpacking are a lot easier than you might think. Options are a plenty and there are so many thoughtful, reasonably priced gifts you can buy that are not the usual holiday gift cards. Everything from a simple wallet for travelers to a comfy hammock. Normally, I don’t quite enjoy shopping around especially during the holiday season as it can get pretty hectic but since online shopping has become more convenient I do enjoy a tiny splurge every now & then. Being an ardent traveller myself I have a fair few mates who travel quite often. So I’ve come up with a list of gift ideas which are sure to be very useful in many situations. The ones listed below are ideal for just about anybody from peers to family members too.
Power banks – Firstly, this is a very versatile option as this can be useful for anybody not just travellers out there. Another appealing point is that there are many solar powered chargers becoming more & more popular these days according to landofthetraveler. These are coming in a range of sizes and improved efficiency. Hence, if you are gifting a person who loves ecofriendly stuff then you definitely have a winner. These are pretty handy to have especially when you have to charge your tablet or laptop in different countries & especially airports. Often times, there is always someone who has parked themselves in front of that elusive wall socket in the boarding gate area. Furthermore, this will allow folks to save money on convertors & adapters when they travel, particularly on short trips. Versatility is the name of the game when dealing with travel accessories and it doesn’t get much better than this.
Diary for Ticket stubs – If you are looking to inspire folks to travel and take that never ending vacation that they always wanted then a ticket stub diary is a good choice. One can easily collect tickets from places they visited, concerts they went to on their journeys & much more that’s of personal significance. I have no idea what it is about going through some of my old tickets that really engulfs me with an urge to travel more. I still treasure my tickets to a show in the famous Sydney Opera house & my first AC/DC concert whilst traveling through Australia.
Backpacking Water Filters – Next up, it’s a rather more focused gift shall we say. If you are travelling high up in the Himalayas, Alps or some regions in the United States you can be confident that the river water along the way is safe to drink. Most of the time however, the water in the lower regions and other less developed parts of the world are contaminated with bacteria and/ or viruses. Hence, this can be a very thoughtful gift to give to a person who loves to go camping and lose themselves in the backcountry for a few days or weeks.
A hammock – If you are like me then you can never have enough of relaxing on a Hammock whether it’s at home or tied to a couple of trees, there’s nothing quite like chilling and reading a new book. Hammocks are another good budget buy in addition to being a purely relaxing and useful alternative. You can find plenty of camping specific hammocks too in the market from brands like Kammok, Pro Venture etc. A cool option for solo travel enthusiasts.
Comfy Travel Pillow – Another choice I find that is very effective. I got my 1st pillow as a gift and I was pretty stunned by how comfy it was especially during long flights. You were probably thinking of the usual u shaped neck pillow as soon as I mentioned travel pillows. You would be surprised to find that the worlds moved onto a multitude of innovative designs that offer neck & back support too in innovative ways. These could be a thoughtful gift for your tall friends.
Beach Bags – These are especially useful for women who hate getting sand in their bags every time they hit the beach. Beach bags typically come with a mesh at the bottom so that even the tiniest of sand particles can’t sneak through and the ones that do get in can be easily removed. A super convenient thing to have on a weekend let alone a journey through beach laden Croatia.
These are just some of the options that have worked well for me. There are literally thousands of alternatives based on what different people are passionate about. Other intangible options can work just as well too. If you are gifting your relatives or want to facilitate their travels then you can maybe transfer some extra frequent flyer miles you have accrued. More often than not some frequent flyer miles do expire so you can easily gift them away before they do if you are not heading somewhere yourself.
Others like cameras & photo albums have been inspiring folks to travel for a long time and still do so today so even though we haven’t spoken about them in detail they are definitely ones that people will use instead of it being tossed into the attic. In this day & age, ecofriendly items are definitely a worthwhile choice and you can never go wrong with one of these so keep traveling & inspiring!
