Dubai-based airline Emirates will cut the number of flights it offers to United States following attempts to ban travellers from Muslim-majority countries by president Trump.
Since taking office in November last year, Trump has signed two executive orders banning refugees and citizens from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the US.
Iraq, included in earlier executive orders, was removed from the latest attempt.
While both moves were blocked by judges, some travellers have been deterred.
As a result, Emirates said it will reduce direct flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando to five a week in May from the present one a day.
The airline, which is the largest in the world in terms of international passengers, will also cut back its twice-daily flights to Seattle and Boston in June to one a day, with a similar frequency for Los Angeles from July.
The US administration also introduced new security measures in March banning electronic devices larger than a mobile phone from being taken into aircraft cabins on direct flights to the United States from several Middle East locations.
Emirates’ Dubai hub in the United Arab Emirates was one of ten Middle Eastern and North African airports made subject to the new carry-on ban.
Emirates currently flies to 12 destinations in the United States and has said it aims to serve 15 US locations by 2018.
