Berlin’s oldest beer garden, if you’re traveling between April and September, sit at one of the picnic-style benches, under the shade of chestnut trees, for a glass of the house brewed beer. It’s great for people watching and making new friends.

I frequent this place for inspiration; as everything in there moves and breathes with a story. It’s also perfect for a tête-à-tête. The trouble is that once you arrive, you might never leave. The interesting drinks menu of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic treats is enough to keep you there all night. -SamiV
Monkey Bar

Located on the top floor of a trendy boutique hotel, Monkey Bar offers panoramic views of the Berlin Zoo and the monkeys, of course. A word to the wise, make sure you have more than one fancy cocktail to help with the inhibition – bathrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows.

This sultry bar with its red walls, leather booths, candles and latticed ceiling has a distinctive old world feel. It’s the kind of place you go to spend the night conversing and drinking with friends of fellow patrons. The menu features creative cocktails and a solid wine and beer selection.

In a city of trendy bars, Clarchens Ballhaus is a living, breathing monument to Berlin’s bygone nightlife. The huge, virtually unchanged, two-floor ballroom space is awe inspiring. Come for an unforgettable night of live music, dance and beers.
Swing dancing, Gypsy Opera, you name it they do it here. A stunning old building in a funky part of town. Really a fun place to go to meet new people or with friends. – London Lees

Buck and Breck

A sleek black wooden table at the centre of the dark room fits just 14 people, making Buck and Breck one of Berlin’s most intimate bars. But, it’s not famous for its size – hopefuls rap at its door to sip the gin, whisky and brandy based cocktails.
This tiny bar in Mitte is definitely worth searching for and may take you several attempts if you’re heading there late at night… I felt pretty lucky that I managed to squeeze in on a cold weekday night. It attracts an arty crowd for somewhere with a quite a smart interior. -Max Hodge
