Lindblad Expeditions said the debut of its new National Geographic Quest ship may be delayed.
After a tour of the vessel at the Nichols Brothers shipyard near Seattle, company president and CEO Sven Lindblad said it may not be ready to sail for its scheduled June 26 inaugural cruise.
Lindblad said it will make a final determination on June 12.
Passengers booked on the cruise are being notified of the option to switch to later cruises, or to wait for news on June 12. They will get a 50% reduction on the cost of the rescheduled cruise. They can also cancel for a full refund and get a $2,000 per-person credit towards a future cruise.
“Cancelling this voyage, if we must, would be a great disappointment I’m sure for you and for so many others, and I am extremely sorry, as are all of us, that this is even an issue,” Lindblad wrote to passengers.
The 100-passenger Quest is the first newbuild in Lindblad’s history.
