The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island will debut a two-level suite by the end of the year that will feature a bedroom fully submerged in the Indian Ocean.
The suite, called the Muraka (“coral” in the Maldives’ Dhivehi language) will have a 193-square-foot area where the bedroom and bathroom floors sit 16 feet below sea level. Guests will enjoy 180-degree views of sea life and the coral reef out of glass, aquarium-like windows.
Above the waterline, the suite’s 5,900 square feet will encompass two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, bar, living area and butler’s quarters. The upper level will have 1,455 square feet of exterior space with two decks — one for watching the sunrise and the other for viewing the sunset — and an infinity pool. The two levels will be connected with a spiral staircase. The suite will accommodate as many as nine guests.
The daily rate starts at $50,000 for the villa, which will cost an estimated $15 million to build.
The Muraka won’t be the hotel’s first underwater structure. The hotel opened its Ithaa undersea restaurant in 2005.
