Wesgro and City Sightseeing South Africa launched the new Cape Explorer Winelands tour on Monday, July 24.
The iconic red tour buses operated by City Sightseeing across Cape Town and Johannesburg, run seven days a week, 365 days a year and arrive at each stop at scheduled regular intervals.
“The new Winelands tour route, which for the first time takes the City Sightseeing bus out of Cape Town, provides visitors to the Cape an opportunity to sample the best the Winelands has to offer,” said City Sightseeing Managing Director, Claus Tworeck.
The Cape Winelands tour leaves Cape Town in the morning, driving to Bloubergstrand, then off to Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, before returning to the city.
“Tourists will be encouraged to hop off the bus throughout the tour and explore the surrounding areas,” said Tworeck.
The official launch was attended by Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities for the Western Cape, who utilised the event to share insights on the tourism industry and seasonality in the province.
“A total of 344 131 tourists visited the Western Cape in last year’s off-peak season. This double-digit (20.2%) year-on-year growth, coupled with strong growth rates to the province from all global regions, led to R3.8bn (€250m) in tourist spend (33.8% growth). This positive contribution to the Cape economy during the traditional off-peak season (July-September) is a strong testament to the efforts we’re making to address seasonality through Project Khulisa,” said Winde, according to Fin24.
