Carnival Corp. said it signed a memo of understanding with Fincantieri to build two ships, which will go to its Princess Cruises and Holland America Line brands.
Fincantieri said the order has an overall value exceeding 1 million Euros.
The HAL ship, at 99,500 gross tons and 2,660 passengers, will be its third Pinnacle-class vessel; the Koningsdam was the first in that series. The 145,000-gross-ton Princess ship will be its sixth Royal-class vessel, with capacity at double occupancy for 3,600 passengers.
HAL’s ship will be built at the shipyard in Marghera, Italy and is expected to be delivered in 2021, and the Princess ship will be built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard with an expected delivery in 2022.
Overall, Carnival Corp. now has 19 new ships scheduled to be delivered between 2017 and 2022.
