Cape Town Tourism’s mobile visitor information vehicles have visited 22 sites and interacted with more than 70 000 visitors over the first quarter of 2020.
The three visitor information centre (VIC) vehicles, each named ‘Thando’ –meaning ‘love’ in isiXhosa – offer tourists extensive visitor information services and are an “exciting” merger between technology and tourism knowledge, according to the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, James Vos.
Vos visited ‘Thando 3’, where it was on display at the Cape Town Stadium for the duration of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. “Together with Cape Town Tourism, we are committed to take services to residents and visitors where they are, and the deployment of Thando mobile VICs will help us to achieve this,” he said.
Thando has a range of offerings and services including free information brochures; accommodation and activity booking services; SANParks reservations; ticketing services; and the sale of specialised maps and Cape Town Tourism products.
The van is also equipped with free WiFi, available in the vicinity of the vehicle.
“We work hard to attract visitors, both business and leisure tourists, so they spend time and money in our beautiful city, enabling job creation,” said Vos. He added that City of Cape Town and Cape Town Tourism were committed to taking services to visitors with the deployment of Thando mobile VICs.
