I really couldn’t say which part of Stockholm is the coolest. To me, the whole central area of Norrrmalm and Ostermalm down to Gamla Stan and on the hip Sodermalm (where a lot of the Girl with a Dragon Tatoo novels take place) is cool. However, if we’re talking luxury, as in the top fashion brands in the world, great restaurants and hard-to-get-in clubs, then the area around Birger Jarlsgatan street near the water towards Stranvagen where you catch the cruises to the Stockholm Archipelago and beyond, all that area is fantastic. Nearby subway station is the Östermalmstorg T-bana.

As far as bars and restaurants there are many. The Soap Bar is small but very popular, but I’d prefer the Café Opera. I like the big Berns restaurant and Club (EDM/POP DJs and concerts). Berns actually has 2 restaurants, the club and a hotel. The original Berns on the site is over 100 years old. I really liked the Berns Asiatiska restaurant inside, but the Berns bistro outside is also very good.

Many, many good hotels in Stockholm but here are a few suggestions:
The Grand Hotel – a magnificent building not far from Birger Jarlsgatan street across from the waterfront where the boat cruises to the archipelago leave from.
The Radisson Blu Waterfront right next to the impressive Convention Centre. Excellent location. The Scandic Continental. Centrally located very close to public transportation (which, by the way, is fantastic). I stayed at this hotel for a weeks in summer. Would definitely stay there again (though there are many cool hotels I’d like to try, including the 3 I suggest here besides the Continental).Hotel Rival. A very cool hotel (owned by ABBA’s Benny Andersson) in a cool neighbourhood.Haymarket by Scandic. Another cool hotel in a great location – the Hötorget (Haymarket) city square.
Best time to visit – June to September
