A four-time winner of the World Hotel Awards “Soul Experience” prize, the luminous three-room and two-suite city palace will leave lucky guests breathlessly drunk on the thrill of new discovery. Most captivating, however, is the love story that took place behind AnaYela’s closed doors: a 16-year-old girl and her beau once had clandestine nighttime meetings in the palace’s Tapis Volant, or “flying carpet” tower. “I am Yela” are the opening words of handwritten manuscript that was discovered in a hidden room during re-construction. One of the most renowned calligraphers of Morocco, hammered the lovers’ tale in silver on the vast doors through the house, like pages in a book. As a Mecca of mystique, it’s no wonder that guests feel as if they’ve stepped into mirage.

ARCHITECTURE
A SUSTAINABLE PALACE
German entrepreneur Bernd Kolb lovingly restored the gorgeous 300-year-old city palace to become, “A Place of Inspiration.” Indeed, Kolb has created an opulent boutique hotel and one of the first cultural sustainability projects in the middle of the medina in Marrakech. Using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, restoration was carried out by hand, without the use of electric tools, by more than 100 artisans. Amongst its many mystical amenities, the city palace offers a lush indoor courtyard, with a heated limestone pool, and a beguiling rooftop terrace overlooking Marrakech’s historic quarter.
INTERIOR DESIGN
OOZING MOROCCAN MYSTIQUE
Every single piece of furniture – from the lamps to the opulent adornments to even the tableware – were all designed by Bernd Kolb and Yannick Hervy, and finished individually by Moroccan artisans.
As a result, the house as a whole is an indulgent piece of art in itself. Here, one’s senses are beguiled, while inspirational energies and emotions are awoken and set free.

ANDREA AND BERND KOLB
Andrea Kolb started her professional career working in nearly every possible division of corporate life, from advertising to PR to events to brand. After forming her own company, Calliope, and working with companies such as Deutschebank and Volkswagen, she set out to create experiences “that truly touch people,” as she puts it. Enter Marrakesh, where she and husband Bernd Kolb opened a Think Tank that would eventually become AnaYela. A social entrepreneur and Internet pioneer, Bernd Kolb strives to make the world a better place through his unique spirit of creativity and innovation. In 1993, he developed the first Internet advertising portal in Germany, followed by the first German e-commerce platform two years later. Together with his wife, Kolb founded Club of Marrakesh in 2010, and his lectures on global challenges inspire others to take an active role in their environment.
