Airline traffic in Africa increased at its sharpest pace in more than five years, according to Iata’s global passenger traffic data report for April 2017.
African airlines’ traffic surged a massive 17.2% in April, following a recovery in demand for travel to Europe.
However, political uncertainty in South Africa is expected to have a negative impact on passenger growth across all flights.
Globally, air traffic is increasing as well, driven by the fact that the price of air travel in the first quarter of this year was around 10% lower than in the same period last year. Seat capacity increased 7.1%, while the load factor (the actual percentage of seats used) rose 2.7% to an April-record of 82%.
