Costa Rica is second only to Mexico when it comes to the number of stunning resort hotels you can get to quickly from North America. The latest one with jaw-dropping views to show up in our pages is Casa Chameleon Las Catalinas.
This beautiful adults-only paradise is perched on the top of a hill, with views up and down this section of the Pacific Ocean coast in the Guanacaste area of northern Costa Rica. The best view of all is in a spot you’ll enjoy it plenty: the zero edge infinity swimming pool. You can get a feel for what that’s like at the top.
The panoramas don’t stop though when you get back to your room—or rather your villa we should say.
The 21 villas sitting throughout the hill all offer equally commanding ocean views. The villas separate into 3 different locations: to the South looking at Sugar Beach and Penca, to the west facing the Catalinas Islands, or higher on the hillside to the west. Since every single villa has their own private infinity plunge pool, the hardest decision most couples will have during their stay at Casa Chameleon is which pool to enjoy that day.
The private plunge pool area has room for lounging, with a couple of pool chairs, a sofa, and small table. There are even yoga mats in a basket. These individual villas are new, so you can expect plenty of outlets, good Wi-Fi, good lighting, and crisp A/C. If the weather is cool though and you want to let the ocean breeze float through, you can open the doors and use the mosquito net.
The restaurant here, Sentido Norte, is not one of those Costa Rican hotel restaurants that’s going to leave you bewildered or disappointed. The chef works hard to create interesting dishes and from locally sourced ingredients and dinner is a romantic treat. The bar also works a lot of tropical fruits and spices into its colorful cocktails.
There’s a strong emphasis on wellness at Casa Chameleon, so you’ll find a well-equipped gym and rooftop yoga center. Shuttles run down to the beach, where there are kayaks and paddleboards to use on the water.
The only real downside of this property is that the master community it’s a part of, Las Catalinas, is still under construction. That won’t mar the view, of course, but there may be some noise during the daytime. The more time that goes by, the less this will matter. Places like Los Suenos and Peninsula Papagayo also went through that phase in the beginning until the building was done.
