My One Demand. Surely to be a highlight of Toronto’s Luminato Festival.
“For three nights beginning on June 25, the streets of Toronto will be an open-air film studio for audiences
worldwide with My One Demand: an interactive film created by internationally renowned UK-based artist group Blast Theory and featuring a local cast of actors.” Luminato Festival
Call it experimental art, avant garde cinema or social media meets film making. Whatever you call it, My One Demand interactive film will probably create some buzz. I will probably go to the TIFF Bell Lightbox Cinema to see it – perhaps interact with it. Although I am not much for experimental art or cerebral ouvres, I enjoy seeing what’s the latest in artistic endeavours. I also like cinematic events. I remember going to see Abel Gance’s Napoleon at the Radio City Music Hall in 1981. For those of you who may not know about this film, Abel Gance made it in 1927! It was revolutionary at the time with it’s triptych screen and marathonic length. The version I saw was over 4 hours long with a live orchestra conducted by Carmine Coppola and presented by his son Francis Ford. It was probably the biggest cinematic event I have ever seen. My One Demand will not rise to that level, I don’t think, but it will be interesting to see what it is. Interactive, real time art is not new, but it hasn’t been done very much in cinema. After all, there is a reason why screen writers exist. In any case, I’m intrigued. Visit the Luminato website to learn more or buy tickets for the screenings.
