If you’re looking for a well-appointed, adults-only, all-inclusive resort on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, I’ve found yet another property that I’d recommend: Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun.
(In addition to this hotel review, be sure to check out the video tour of my hotel room on my YouTube channel!)
I recently attended “The Best of the Best,” an annual conference and celebration organized by vacation packager Travel Impressions. I covered that event for TravelAge West, the leading travel trade publication in the western USA. Luckily for me, the gathering took place at Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, a member of the AMResorts portfolio of upscale all-inclusive properties. Located less than an hour from the Cancun airport, it’s a conveniently located resort with tons of amenities that can help grownups plan an indulgent Mexico beach vacation.
MEXICO HOTEL STYLE: One of the first things that struck me about this Mexico beach resort was the lush landscaping. I love the fact that all the swimming pools are gentle curves; they blend seamlessly into the natural setting since they have no hard edges. I also love the the various quiet and beautiful seating areas throughout the property, from hammocks to benches to podlike swinging lounge chairs to day beds. You never have to worry about finding a place to relax, and never have to worry about feeling crowded. I enjoyed lying back whenever I had free time, and watching the super-cute resident coatis wander the property.
As with many Mexico hotels in the region, I found the service to be spectacularly warm and friendly; staff members are wonderful about greeting everyone and making people feel important (Mexico, in general, surpasses the majority of destinations I’ve visited when it comes to service).
MEXICO HOTEL FEATURES: The cuisine is quite diverse at Secrets Maroma Beach. The 24-hour cafe is attractively decorated and a great place to pick up a light snack or beverage at any time, while the World Cafe offers an extensive buffet for breakfast and lunch. Elegant a-la-carte dining is a can’t-miss experience here; options include French cuisine at Bordeaux, Mexican delicacies at El Patio, seafood at Oceana and pan Asian cuisine at Himitsu.
There are lots of outdoor games and programmed activities at this Mexico resort, so you can make your days as active as you like. The after-dark live entertainment is also impressive; I witnessed a show by some very skilled acrobatic dancers one evening.
MY MEXICO HOTEL ROOM: I stayed in a handsomely decorated swim-up suite (room 2419, to be exact). The spacious room featured a sunken seating area, a lovely wood ceiling fan, well-planned lighting and a beautiful bathroom with a shower stall as well as an indulgent tub bordered by sliding wood doors that opeedn to the bedroom. The private terrace is especially beautiful and inviting, offering irresistible access to the pool.
A few more of my favorite features: the “secret” privacy box that’s used to deliver room service items without having to open the door, and the hypnotic TV channel that I believe is featured at all Secrets properties; its sepia-toned videos of gentle elephants and graceful swimmers is simply stunning and an effective natural relaxant.
My room also included access to the Preferred Club lounge, an attractive venue that serves free drinks and extensive snacks throughout the day and into the evening. It’s a worthwhile indulgence if you’d like to upgrade your vacation experience a bit more.
BEST FOR: This Mexico beach hotel is ideal for adults looking for a peaceful and quiet all-inclusive getaway that’s heavy on the beach and outdoor activities. It’s especially good for couples looking for a romantic beach vacation will do especially well here, but there’s more than enough to do for groups of friends and adult families.
