The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam recently organised Vietnam’s Trade-Investment-Tourism Promotion Forum in Kolkata. H.E. Pham Sanh Chau, Ambassador, Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Secretary-General, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers; Nguyen Quoc Duan, Director, Song Nam International Trade Development Company; Vishal Jhajharia, President of Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry were some of the dignitaries present. This forum was held to act as a catalyst in enhancing bilateral trade between India and Vietnam in the coming days in this region.
Relations between Vietnam and India surpasses beyond economics and politics and share a very ‘special bond’. India is now among the top 10 trading partners of Vietnam. Vietnam is the 4th largest trading partner of India among ASEAN countries after Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
The forum gave opportunities to travel operators to invest in Vietnam Trade and Tourism and also shed light on why Indian companies must invest in India.
The year 2019 is being celebrated as the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism. Two India-Vietnam roadshows were held in January and August in Hanoi by the Ministry of Tourism and the Embassy of India to promote tourism exchanges. Both countries have facilitated a simplified visa regime to promote bilateral tourism and have e-tourist visa arrangements for citizens of both countries. The direct flight connectivity between both the countries from October now further promotes two-way tourism, trade and business linkages.
