A 23-foot-long gingerbread replica of the Carnival Mardi Gras, a new ship coming in August 2020, is on display at Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta.
Atlanta cake artist Karen Portaleo created the gingerbread ship, which weighs 1,500 pounds and was made from 130 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of cinnamon, and 50 gallons of icing.
The structure is complete with a waterpark and working replica of Bolt, the first roller coaster at sea.
The gingerbread cruise ship will be on display at the Lenox Square Mall through Dec. 24.
Portaleo is known for her appearances on Food Network. She has appeared on “Cake Challenge” four times, plus “Halloween Wars” and “Cake Wars.” She has also appeared on her own show, “Caketastrophe.”
“I’ve created hundreds of cakes during my career, but a 1,500-pound gingerbread cruise ship is certainly a first for me,” said Portaleo.

What a gigantic waste of food and money! I am opposed to Carnival’s continual and unnecessary food waste (ever see the “Cross the Equator” Ceremony??!). This will be tossed in the trash – as does all their lavish decorations made out of food. Get real – if you’re not feeding people, why bother?
