It can be a little uncomfortable to arrive in a strange place where you don’t know anyone. Where there’s nobody there to meet you and tell you where to go next. One of the best perks of traveling with a high-end tour company or staying at a luxury hotel is the extra level of service you get upon arrival to put you at ease and make your final leg comfortable.
The top resorts do more than hand you a welcome drink at check-in and then send you to your room to wait for your bags to arrive.
For guests staying at Chabil Mar Villas Resort in Placencia, Belize, the welcoming arrival in Belize starts as soon as you land in the country. Someone from the resort is personally meeting your party upon arrival at BZE airport and escorting you through the arrival process to your local airline.
Once you have taken that short flight south from Belize City, the resort will have someone else waiting when you step out of the plane. A representative from Chabil Mar will be waiting in the small Placencia airport, escorting you to an official van stocked with cool towels and water.
A sign posted in front of the office at the resort welcomes you by name, then there’s a welcome drink (with or without rum) coming from the guest services people in the check-in area, along with some Belizean chocolate. There’s a low-key orientation tour of the property while you sip your cold drink, ending up at your villa where the luggage is ready.
Inside your villa, you’ll find a greeting card from the manager and a vase of fresh flowers. Robes are laid out, along with a daily “News and Views” update. The staffer who provided the tour can answer any questions and take care of any immediate needs upon arrival, including dinner arrangements.
Need a break on your balcony after the journey before you unpack or put on a bathing suit? They’ve got that covered too: there’s a basket of local rum bottles to get you in the Belize vibe from the start.
The service doesn’t stop there of course. Chabil Mar Resort offers a long list of complimentary services during your stay, such as kayaks and bikes to borrow, plus shuttles to town at night and a barbecue area. Then there’s a long menu of vacation fun items to pick from, whether that’s a romantic dinner on the pier, fruity cocktails by the pool, or Belize adventure excursion packages that include activities on land or sea. There’s even sailing, yoga, or a private island getaway to cover all the bases.
Plus you won’t be sleeping in a typical hotel room either after your arrival in Belize. This one has “Villas” in its name because even the smallest units have a kitchen, living room, and furnished outdoor terrace or balcony space. The villas go up in several phases to a two-story, two-bedroom option that’s 2,000 square feet. You’ll have plenty of space to spread out when you’re not by the beach, by the pool, in the sea, or exploring the peninsula.
