American Express Travel has identified top trending spring break destinations based on booking data and year-over-year growth, and San Luis Obispo, Calif., is leading the way.
The mid-coast California city has seen 66% growth year over year, American Express Travel said. Surrounded by more than 100 wineries, the agency said it’s a great stop for a road trip through California on spring break, and “we encourage travelers to add this to the list before it become fully explored.”
Panama City, Fla., was the second trending destination AmEx Travel uncovered with 58% year-over-year growth, despite the devastating Hurricane Michael last October. One American Express Travel and Lifestyle Consultant called Panama City the “seafood capital of the south,” also noting it is an ideal spot for a beach vacation.
Grand Junction, Colo., and Yuma, Ariz., are also trending destinations, with 55% and 51% year-over-year growth, respectively. American Express Travel called the cities “hidden gems across the Colorado River.” Grand Junction is becoming known as Colorado’s wine country hub, the agency said, and Yuma’s location and climate make it a popular destination.
Hilton Head, S.C., saw 51% year-over-year growth, with high demand for its beaches, resorts and golf courses.
Santa Rosa, Calif., also made the list with 48% year-over-year growth. American Express Travel said Santa Rosa is attractive because of its location, centered in the Sonoma County wine region, as well as its ocean views, restaurants, breweries and historical residential neighborhood.
Santa Rosa was devastated by wildfire in October 2017 and has since bounced back.
