Royal Caribbean International has temporarily shuttered the Sky Pad trampoline attraction, which is on some of the line’s ships, including the Mariner, Navigator, Independence and Spectrum of the Seas.
The Sky Pad is a bungee trampoline experience in which participants wear a virtual reality headset.
In a lawsuit filed March 12 in federal court in Miami, a Sarasota man said he was injured when the harness used to fasten him to the bungee apparatus disconnected. Casey Holladay said he suffered injuries in a 20-foot fall. He is asking for $75,000.
Rob Zeiger, vice president and global chief communication officer at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., confirmed that the Sky Pads have been closed for several weeks, “until we can be sure we know what’s going on.”
The Sky Pad, which debuted on Mariner of the Seas after a drydock in 2018, is enclosed in a 30-foot spherical aluminum shell and visually prominent on the top deck. It is scheduled to be installed on more ships that cycle through drydock to receive the Royal Amplified improvements package.
